Hertfordshire Open Studios

Saturday 8th September to Sunday 30th September 2018
Why not extend the summer holiday mood with a self-guided tour of some of Hertfordshire's finest artists, craftmakers and artisans? Artists are opening their doors for the biggest county-wide art event in Hertfordshire - Herts Open Studios. This annual autumn show, organised by Herts Visual Arts, runs for three weeks and entry to participating exhibitions is free.

St Albans Food & Drink Festival 2018

Wednesday 26th September to Monday 8th October
The St Albans Food & Drink Festival will return this autumn to showcase the fantastic range of food, drink and produce available throughout St Albans District. With so many excellent eateries providing fabulous food and delightful drinking holes, the festival is a great time to try something new or different.

CAMRA St Albans Beer and Cider Festival

Wednesday 26th September to Saturday 29th September 2018
A four day event being held at the Alban Arena in St Albans, United Kingdom. Up to 450 different beers on sale across ten bars. Up to 300 cool, cask-conditioned real ales, 80 ciders and perries, 50 bottle conditioned beers and 80 foreign beers from all over the world. Live music from The Landlords Thursday evening, Swan Vesta Social Club Saturday lunchtime and The Overtures Saturday evening.

Rogue Opera presents Bizet's Carmen

Friday 28th and Sunday 30th September 2018
Rogue Opera presents a new intimate production of Bizet’s Carmen for six singers, pianist and dancer, sung in in French with English surtitles. With the audience close enough to see blood, sweat and tears and to feel the vibration of every note, Bizet’s thrilling and captivating music is raw, powerful and intimate.

A Music Icon: I.K. Dairo will commemorate the anniversary of 55 years since Dairo received his MBE for services to music across the Commonwealth and in doing so; recognise the only African musician to have received such an honour.

St Albans Remembers will provide information on events held to commemorate Remembrance Sunday 2018 and the WW1 Centenary in 2018.

Gorhambury Tour on Film

Wednesday 3rd October 2018
The Gorhambury Tour allows viewers to experience the 18th century rooms of the house as they were laid out until very recently. This specially commissioned film is narrated by Tessa Roberts, head guide for the National and Decorative Fine Art Societies (NADFAS), who led tours at Gorhambury for 29 years and has an unparalleled knowledge of the house and its treasures.

Folk at the Maltings - Solasta plus Steve Warner and Ellie McCann

Solasta is a dynamic young trio made up of Scottish fiddler Elisabeth Flett, Welsh cellist Hannah Thomas and English guitarist Jamie Leeming. They are rapidly making a name for themselves, with performances at major festivals and featuring regularly on folk radio shows and podcasts.

Watford Band are proud to present a live performance of ‘Last Night of The Proms’ at the St Paul’s Church in St Albans. So if you couldn’t get tickets to this year’s Prom, now is your opportunity to wave a flag and sing some old favourites. Flags of all nations welcome.

Poppy Field

Friday 26th and Saturday 27th October 2018
A stunning projection of poppies will fill the Nave of St Albans Cathedral for two nights only, as part of a unique light and sound installation to commemorate the World War One Centenary. The Cathedral will open after dark to anyone wishing to contemplate and reflect on the history of World War One. Entry will be free and will provide people with an opportunity to remember those who have served, both in the First World War and any other conflict.

St Albans Cathedral Fireworks Spectacular

Come and enjoy a spectacular event full of fantastic fireworks, food and fun for the whole family! Taking place in Verulamium Park, this amazing public display was started over 25 years ago in order to reduce firework accidents at home. Over the years it has raised over £750,000 for local and national charities. This year’s nominated charities are Earthworks St Albans and Waverley Driving Group RDA as well as other charities supported by St Albans Cathedral.

Take a break from the last-minute Christmas shopping and enjoy this special St Albans Cathedral event. Each service lasts just 30 minutes, enough time to sing some uplifting carols with the Cathedral Choirs. Everyone is welcome to come and sing and experience the true meaning of Christmas at these hourly Carol Services from 11am to 4pm. No tickets required and admission is free.
