St Albans Christmas Lights Switch On and Christmas Market Launch

Entertainment throughout the city centre to mark the official start of the Christmas shopping season. There will be three switch-on events at 5pm: at the Taxi Rank Stage, by the Clock Tower, and at the Christmas Market in Vintry Garden.

Soak up the sights, smells and festive ambience of St Albans this Christmas!

Light Switch On Locations St Albans Christmas Light Switch on entertainment will commence from 5pm at the following locations;

- Taxi Rank Stage on St Peters Street
- Clock Tower on High Street
- Christmas Market in Vintry Garden outside St Albans Cathedral
Taxi Rank Stage Sing along with the choirs, dance in the street and get in the festive spirit with a great line up of entertainment from local musicians, community groups and panto stars!

1.30–1.50pm – Mamas with Voices
2.05–2.50pm – The Zipheads

Clock Tower Don’t forget to walk down to the clock tower where you can find a more music and entertaining street acts including fire jugglers! Street Artist timetable to be announced soon.
Poppycock Winter Wonderland Bar Snow will be falling as you escape to the magical Poppycock Winter Wonderland Bar. With hot and cold beverages available it’s a great place to start celebrating the Christmas season with friends and family.
Over 70 local traders The street will be lined with over 70 local food traders perfect for warming you up on a crisp winter’s day. Enjoy the atmosphere created by the hustle and bustle of the market filled with the aromas of festive food. It is bound to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Give loved one’s a gift that is original and special this Christmas. Our independent retailers have something for everyone from Artisan Cheeses and handmade chocolates through to bespoke jewellery, personalised wooden decorations, festive wreaths and much more.
Children’s Activities Free Face Painting kindly sponsored by Debenhams Ottaway
- Make sure to visit the Face Painting bus stop and it’s not just for the kids! It has been kindly sponsored by Debenhams Ottaway, a leading Hertfordshire solicitors firm in St Albans, providing legal advice to businesses, families and individuals.

Giant Snow Globe
- Enter the giant snow globe and dance with the family as the snow falls around you. Smile for the camera and take home a piece of the experience.

Make your own Christmas bauble
- Grab the glitter and the sparkles to make your own Christmas bauble to take home and hang on your tree!

Children’s Christmas Games
- Oaklands College, Bunnings and St Albans Rocks will be outside Jack Wills providing free children games and colouring activities throughout the event.

Rotary Club
- Look out for the Rotary Clubs Christmas Grotto in St Peter’s Street!
Fun Fair A range of fun fair rides and games for the whole family to enjoy. You can find them outside the new museum, along Chequer Street and Victoria Street plus a few by the Clock Tower too. Prices and height restrictions apply.
Christmas Market at Vintry Garden St Albans knows a thing or two about markets, having one of the oldest charter markets in the UK, dating back to the 9th century. So what better City to hold a European-style Christmas Market? The 2017 Christmas Market will take place from Saturday 25th November to Saturday 23rd December 2017. Make sure to take a wander past the Clock Tower and through to Vintry Garden to take a look.
Local Radio - Radio Verulam 92.6FM
Listen out for broadcast from Jonny Seabrook and Klaudia Stan from 12- 2pm, Elspeth Jackman from 2-4pm and Alex McKay from 4-6pm. Visit their stall outside Boots and maybe even get a free balloon! A team from the Junior Dragons' Apprentice competition at St Michael's School will also be joining the Radio Verulam team selling Christmas items to raise money for radio station.

- Heart Radio
Heart Hertfordshire is the local radio station for St Albans, Watford and Hemel Hempstead, playing a mix of feel good music alongside exclusive celebrity interviews and big money competitions and giveaways. The Heart Angels will be at St Albans Christmas Light Switch On turning up the feel good! Make sure you swing by our Angels at the Clock Tower and collect your festive antlers.
